When
I am not at Embrace the Moon I am head of the English Department at
Inglemoor High School and teach 11th grade English. I recently published
my first novel, God’s Country, (here comes the shameless promotion)
which is available online through Barnes and Noble, Borders, Amazon,
or directly through the publisher.
I recently wrote a chapter for a book published by the National Council
of Teachers of English, Making Media Matter. I teach college
seminars on media literacy and am currently studying adolescent media
habits and their effects on student learning. In addition to teaching
I have worked in television, music, and event production, and have
had careers as a professional musician and carpenter. I spend my free

with my girlfriend Deb (Kim says she is my wife because we have been together
for over ten years), and my dog Scout. I also am an avid cyclist and hiker
and garden, make wine, pursue music, photography and woodworking. |

I
came to Embrace the Moon almost by chance. Deb (my girlfriend) told
me that she was going to try a class of Qigong and asked if I wanted
to join her. I agreed. After the first class I was immediately intrigued.
For some time I had been looking for something that would help me
to physically establish core muscle strength as well as flexibility.
I had severely herniated two disks in my back, and although for the
most part recovered, had never really returned my back to full stability
let alone flexibility. I have been studying Qigong for about a year
and am continually amazed at the benefits. Not only has strength and
flexibility returned to my back but also my overall health has improved.
I feel physically, mentally and spiritually in balance, and far more
clear in my intellectual intention. I have even noticed a pronounced
resilience to disease. As a teacher I am exposed to hundreds of students.
I usually fall ill at least four or five times a year. In the year
since practicing The Hands of 18 Luohan Qigong I have had one very
mild cold. I am now fully immersed in Qigong and with the support
of Kim and Dr. Garcia am pursuing the teacher training. |
