Essential Taijiquan:
The First Five Movements
With Master Jan Silberstorff
January 14-15 |
Embrace The Moon Taijiquan & Qigong welcomes special guest Master Jan Silberstorff to Seattle, WA. This year, Jan will take us deep into the first five movements of Taijiquan. We will begin with standing correction & a lecture on the main principles of Taijiquan. Zen Meditation & Qigong
with David Tucker, L.Ac
January 21,
February 25, March 17 |
Embracing the mind in all its wonder and mischief can be a truly inspiring way to change our perceptions and reactions to the world in which we live, when mind practice is combined with simple physcial practices, we all have an opportunity to build a powerful internal practice that can provide insight and tools to change one's dynamic with work, family, and the environment. In this 4 session series, David will introduce students to simple and accessible methods of both Zen meditation and Qigong. Zen meditation is a practice that strives to observe our present experience with a mind that is quiet and still, free from our story-lines, patterns and attachments of the past, as well as the worries and projections of the future. Qigong, translated as “energy work” is a key aspect of Chinese Medicine. The set we’re focusing on consists of slow-moving, standing exercises based on major acupuncture meridians and when coordinated with the breath they provide therapeutic physical/mental/emotional benefit. Enjoy one or all four of these classes, just by showing up you can have considerable benefit for you, your loved ones, and those you don’t even know. David will provide background, instruction, and real-life applications in a very practical and down-to-earth manner that is accessible to all. More information can be found on David's Website.

Office Hours
with Joe DeShaw, ACSM, CSCS
January 21
February 11
March 3 |
Chronic muscular tension and pain often occur when muscles have to stay tense and work too hard to maintain a misaligned posture. This pain and tension can also happen when the body is not moving efficiently. For example, knees can hurt and seem weak and unstable if they collapse inward as you sit down or stand up. A forward tilt of the pelvis can cause lower back pain, especially when standing for a long time. Slouched shoulders can lead to upper back and neck tension, along with shoulder pain. Joe's workshop series is now completed (another series will return in the fall) but you can hire Joe during his Office Hours at Embrace The Moon to become more aware and feel the benefits of your own body’s better alignment, learn specific movements and exercises that will help to align your body to relieve tension, improve posture, and make movement easier, and develop your ability to see misalignment in others and know what exercises can help them. You will also learn basic anatomy that is related to body alignment, and how alignment is affected by musculo-skeletal imbalances. Joe DeShaw is Kim Ivy's own personal trainer and has a stellar reputation throughout Seattle & the Northwest for helping people achieve a creative & high functioning pain free movement life. He has decades of training and teaching experience and was named one of the 100 Best Personal Trainers by Men's Health Magazine.
Joe holds "Office Hours" montly at Embrace The Moon starting at 10:00 am. Those wishing to book a private, semi-private with Joe may do so at this time. This is a perfect opportunity to work more deeply on developing key exercises that will enhance your strength, balance and alignment. Working with Joe exquisitely compliments your practice and your overall fitness goals for your life. (Joe is listed by Men's Health Magazine as one of the top 100 Personal Trainers in the US; Kim has been working with Joe regulary for over 2 years and can attest to the benefits).
